A Welcome from the Southern Decadence Grand Marshalls
This year marks the 47th anniversary of the Labor Day extravaganza. As Grand Marshals XLIV, we have worked hard all summer to ensure that this Southern Decadence is the biggest and best ever. If you’re a returning visitor, you already know the drill (pun intended!). If you’re a Decadence virgin, prepare your orifices for many depraved adventures!
Throughout the weekend, bars in the French Quarter and Marigny neighborhoods have scheduled a series of events to cater to a wide variety of tastes and fetishes. Whatever you are into, you can find it in New Orleans during Southern Decadence. Most of the individual bar events are listed here in the pages of Ambush.
Two events not to be missed are the Former Grand Marshals Show at the AllWays Lounge on Friday night at 9:00pm and the Grand Marshals’ Walking Parade on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm. The Parade begins at the Golden Lantern and winds its way through the French Quarter. According to registration numbers, this year’s parade will be the largest ever.
This year’s theme is “House of Bourbon: Unleash Your Beast,” a reference to the Royal Family (the Bourbons) that founded New Orleans 300 years ago as well as to the nature of Southern Decadence, a festival that celebrates unbridled indulgence.
So eat more than you should, get wall-licking drunk, f*ck and suck to your heart’s content. If you don’t black out and wake up in a strange hotel room, you’re probably doing something wrong. This is not Southern Restraint, this is Southern Decadence. Be Decadent!
